Brutalist Lamp, José León Cerrillo
A place to be lit more than a lamp in itself. Different modular pieces that together form that place and the possibility of changing that place by rearrangingRelying on different media such as painting, silk-screen and sculptural-architectural elements, Cerrillo takes as point of departure for his practice a marked interest in systems of language and lacanian theory. He has structured his work around a critical investigation into the problematics of the Modernist Project and its various legacies in Latin American history. His recent projects have drawn references from Modernism, Latin American graphic and political posters from the 1960s and Neo-Concrete poetry.
